Open and Vacant Structures

The Dallas City Code Chapter 27, Minimum Urban Rehabilitation Standards, Section 27-11 (a) (6) requires doors and windows of a vacant structure or portion of a vacant structure be secured to prevent unauthorized entry.

Vacant structures pose many health and safety risks in your community, including the potential FIRE HAZARD risk that are often times created by vagrants. Open and vacant structures are also used regularly to conduct illegal activities including, vandalism, property theft, prostitution, drug manufacture, use and sales.

The Closure Unit work to secure the open and vacant structures that are referred by City Code and Fire Inspectors. Boarding up and securing open doors, windows and crawl spaces will help prevent and reduce crimes in your neighborhood.
