Scope and Content
Several official songs have been proposed for the City of Dallas. One was introduced at the 1961 Texas State Fair as part of the Fair’s Exposition of Music theme. The song, “This Is My City,” was composed by Tom Merriman and commissioned and recorded by Dallas radio station KVIL and the Commercial Recording Corporation.
The collection consists of the lyrics of two songs proposed in October 1961 and the score and lyrics of one song proposed in July 1970 as official or promotional songs for Dallas. The collection also contains photocopies of official actions of the City Council and correspondence from the City Secretary Harold G. Shank and Mayor Earle Cabell regarding the songs.
The collection is arranged chronologically.
