Scope and Content
Collection documents the early history of Dallas Power and Light Company and its interaction with the City of Dallas. Materials include Dallas Power & Light rate schedules, City ordinances granting a franchise to the company, records of actions taken by the Dallas Board of Commissioners, and correspondence regarding rate changes and regulations.
The Texas Power and Light Company (TP&L) consolidated 13 electric companies under one company in 1912 and, in 1917, formed TP&L to power the Dallas area. In 1984, Dallas Power and Light merged with two companies, TESCO and TP&L, to form Texas Utilities Electric Company, later known as TXU.
