Scope and Content
Collection contains one typescript report from the Department of Public Works. Released by the Department of Public Works in January 1987, this long-term planning paper provides an overview of all city services and facilities with analysis and recommendations. The general goals of the report were to provide solutions for
• relieving overcrowding in City Hall
• addressing inadequacies in Old City Hall
• developing and expanding satellite facilities to absorb projected overflow facility needs
• consolidating independently-located citizen contact activities into the 1978-built City Hall
• organizing the implementation of specific projects through site selection, development standards, financing options, and scheduling
The Department of Public Works is responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of the City's mobility infrastructure in the City's right-of-way. The Department of Public Works was created in 1930 following the City's move to the council-manager form of government in 1930. Prior to 1930, public works responsibilities fell under the direction of the city engineer.
