Scope and Content

Contracts, correspondence, and bid specifications for the construction of incinerators in South Dallas and the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, Texas.

Early sanitation in Dallas appeared as early as 1866; a city scavenger for waste removal was appointed in 1882. The first incinerator in Dallas opened in 1898. Until the first sanitary landfill was opened in 1940, the city operated five incinerators and dumps. The first two incinerators were opened in 1924 and 1925, constructed and operated by the Superior Incinerator Company of Dallas, Texas.
