Scope and Content
Collection contains correspondence and technical proposals given to the City of Dallas for building a new sports and special events arena. The collection also contains one item related to the opening of Reunion Arena.
The technical proposals define the elements and people projected to comply with the scope of services requested by the City of Dallas in its request for proposal and interview. They are the precursors to feasibility reports.
Reunion Arena opened in 1980 at a cost of $27 million, and by the early 1990s, the city, sports teams, and concert promoters deemed the facility too small. Different local organizations, including the Greater Dallas Chamber, the Dallas International Sports Commission, Central Dallas Association, and the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau joined together to explore either renovating Reunion Arena or building a new multi-purpose space.
The venue that resulted from these (and other) inputs was the American Airlines Center, which opened in 2001 at a cost of $420 million. The principle design work was completed by David M. Schwarz.
Organization
The collection is organized first by facility and second by date.
