​Scope and Content

Collection contains one report provided by the Department of Planning and Urban Development, along with the City Plan Commission, to Mayor Erik Jonsson and the Dallas City Council.

In 1969, Vincent Ponte, a city planning consultant, and Warren Travers, a transportation and traffic engineering consultant, provided a multi-level plan for downtown that included underground truck tunnels, pedestrian promenades, parks, a mass transit system, and parking garages.

The report in this collection contains a comprehensive analysis of the 1969 Ponte-Travers' Plan for the central business district of Dallas and supports plans agreed to in the first review.   In addition to adopting recommended resolutions for building permit applications, the review committee set the following priorities for consideration, evaluation, and adoption by the city:

•  a city street
•  a parks and boulevards
•  parking policy
•  trucking policy
•  pedestrian-way policy
•  public transit system

Other areas of consideration for possible early implementation include the Austin-Main trucking tunnel and the Thanksgiving Square pedestrian connections.
