Scope and Content
Collection contains correspondence to and from the Dallas Park Board Secretary.
The City of Dallas established a Board of Park Commissioners, in 1905, to oversee the operations of the park system. Managing the everyday affairs of parklands had become too time-consuming for the City Council, and the acquisition of the Fair Park necessitated some type of governing body.
The Dallas Park and Recreation Board has oversight of the Dallas Park and Recreation Department. The 15 members of this policy-making board are appointed and approved by the Mayor and Dallas City Council.
