Collection consists of videotape of a sampling of Dallas City Council meetings between 1989 to 1999, including a Dallas City Council inauguration event held June 2, 1997 and an Oak Cliff "town hall" format meeting held October 11, 1997.  The videocassettes are in the 3/4" U-matic format, which were used for re-broadcast of Dallas City Council meetings by local cable on a city-designated cable access channel.  The tapes were recycled weekly, and these tapes are the only ones of entire meetings from that time period.

 

The June 2, 1997, Dallas City Council inauguration occurred during the first term of Mayor Ron Kirk at Fair Park Music Hall.  The inauguration was notable for installing seven women, the largest number to sit on the 15-member body up to that time.

 

Originals have not been transferred to digital format and are restricted due to fragile condition.   They are currently not available to the public.  Consult the archivist for further information.
