Scope and Contents 

Collection contains speeches given by City Managers John Ware and Jan Hart.  Jan Hart was City Manager between 1990 and 1993, and John Ware was City Manager between 1994 and 1998.   

The speeches, such as the State of the City Address, cover topics including, but not limited to, the

•  overall outlook for the City of Dallas
•  strengths of the city
•  economy
•  public safety
•  budget

The documents are mostly typed, but some hand-written notes exist.

In Dallas, the city manager's duties include conducting the city's administrative activities, overseeing the budget, appointing and employing directors of departments, keeping City Council apprised of financial and legal issues, and executing deeds and contracts on behalf of the city.

The collection is arranged first by City Manager and second by year.
