Scope and Content
Collection contains born-digital photographs of the ribbon-cutting grand opening ceremony for the refurbished Dallas Executive Airport (formerly Redbird Airport) at Hampton Road and U.S. Highway 67 in the Red Bird area of Dallas.
Dallas Executive Airport (RBD) is owned by the City of Dallas and operated by the Department of Aviation, which also operates Love Field (DAL) and the downtown heliport. The 1040-acre general aviation facility, fenced, gated, and digitally monitored, is located just 10 miles south of downtown Dallas with easy access to major thoroughfares inclusive of I-20, I-30, I-35E, I-45, US-67, and Loop 12.
Redbird Airport was created from an initial 1026-acre purchase by the city in 1944. The City of Dallas changed the name of Redbird Airport to Dallas Executive Airport on February 27, 2002 (Ordinance 24859). The name change was effective May 1. The general aviation airport's name was changed to better market the airport and its amenities to corporate and private travelers.
