Scope and Content
Beginning in January 2015, the City of Dallas Office of Ethics and Diversity held a series of lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgender (LGBT) focus group sessions to give City employees identifying as lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgender an opportunity to raise concerns and to provide feedback to the city manager through the ethics and diversity officer.
The Dallas City Association for Promoting Equality (CAPE) was formally established on May 15, 2015. Twenty-three charter members enrolled, adopted bylaws, and elected officers. The mission of the group is
To raise awareness of equality issues in the workplace in order to foster an organizational culture that is inclusive and supportive of LGBTQ City employees, promote professional and personal development, and break negative stereotypes through education.
On February 9, 2017, the members voted to change the name to the LGBT Employee Association of Dallas to more clearly identify the organization to colleagues and the community.
