Scope and Content

Collection consists of copies of the City of Dallas Equal Employment Opportunity Program Affirmative Action Plans from 1983 to 1992. 

In response to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the City of Dallas enacted its first Affirmative Action Plan in 1972.  The plan was an effort to ensure equal employment opportunities and to eliminate the current and lingering effects of prior discrimination.  Not only was the plan an attempt to achieve employment parity for all race and sex groups, but it was also designed to meet the stringent requirements for many federally funded programs.  The plans in this collection were designed to help the city establish five-year goals and targets to increase the city's commitment to Affirmative Action.
