Scope and Contents
Typescript manuscript, electrostatic, printed materials, and one black and white photographic print documenting the government of the Town of Preston Hollow, Dallas County, Texas, and its annexation to the City of Dallas
The Town of Preston Hollow, Texas, was incorporated November 28th, 1939, under Texas statutes and originally comprised 79.5 acres of land located at the intersection of Preston Road and Northwest Highway. It remained an independent municipality of about 1,700 until the City of Dallas attempted a simultaneous election in April 1945 to annex University Park, Highland Park, and Preston Hollow. While the Park Cities rejected the merger, Preston Hollow voted for unification, which became effective instantly.
The bulk of the collection contains the Town of Preston Hollow’s articles of incorporation, its ordinances and Board of Aldermen minutes, governmental correspondence, and files regarding elections, zoning, and other governmental activities.
Organization
The collection is arranged chronologically.
